GETTING STARTED
Build a brief you can retrace.
Save a useful passage, keep its source, and connect it to a point in your brief.
Save your first source
- Open an ordinary http or https webpage and select some text.
- Right-click and choose Save selection to SourcePack.
- The selection is saved to your active project. If no project is active, SourcePack creates an Inbox.
- Open SourcePack from Chrome’s toolbar to review the excerpt and add your note.
The shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on Mac. If another extension uses it, configure a shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. You can also add an excerpt or personal note manually.
Connect sources to a brief
Create a project, then add a claim or section heading in Brief outline. On a source card, use Link to claim to choose the points it supports. Review labels are your own assessment; SourcePack does not fact-check a claim. In the side panel, switch between Sources and Brief. Use Open full workspace for more room.
Export
Export brief offers Markdown, an HTML document you can print to PDF, and a source matrix CSV. Your original projects remain in the extension. Personal notes are labelled separately from excerpts.
Backup and switching devices
Open Settings → Export backup. On the other Chrome profile, install SourcePack and choose Restore backup. Restoring replaces all projects after confirmation. Back up the destination workspace first if you need to keep it. Chrome storage is local and is not synced across devices.
Limits and recovery
SourcePack supports normal webpages, not chrome:// pages, Chrome Web Store pages, built-in PDF viewers, or protected browser surfaces. A side-panel capture can fail if Chrome has not granted temporary tab access; use the selection’s right-click menu or the shortcut instead. Capture stops at 20,000 characters per excerpt; shorten larger selections. URLs with embedded usernames/passwords are rejected.
The workspace supports up to 200 projects, 5,000 sources in total, and a storage budget of about 9 MB. If storage is full, export a backup and remove older projects. If your workspace cannot open, keep the extension installed and contact support before resetting storage. SourcePack does not silently replace damaged or newer-version data.
